Below is your roadmap. Every step, every milestone, every moment, laid out so you know exactly what is ahead. Because when you can see your future clearly, it stops feeling impossible and starts feeling real.
The Intended Parent Journey
From your very first conversation with us to the moment you hold your baby, here is every step of the path.
STEP 1 — Free Consultation
Your journey starts with a real conversation. You will meet directly with one of our program directors, not a salesperson, not an intake form. We get to know you, your goals, your situation, and your timeline. Every question you have gets a real answer. By the end of this call, you will know exactly what to expect and whether Avenir is the right fit for you.
STEP 2 — Application, Benefits Package & Financial Review
Your Application You complete your intended parent application covering your personal, medical, and family background. We also run a background check on all intended parents, standard, required, no exceptions. If your embryo count is not where it needs to be yet, no problem, you can join the match list while you work on it. Everything is reviewed with care, not judgment.
Benefits Package Review
Once your application is approved, you will review and sign your Benefits Package with Avenir Fertility. Every service, every milestone, every deliverable, spelled out clearly and walked through with your coordinator line by line. You will have time to review it, ask questions. We never rush this step.
Financial Review
We walk through every cost involved in your journey, agency fees, surrogate compensation, medical, legal, insurance, and escrow. No hidden surprises. No vague estimates. A complete, honest picture before you commit to anything. Financial readiness is not about having unlimited resources. It is about having a clear plan, and we help you build it.
STEP 3 — Socioeconomic & Social Worker Evaluation
As part of your application process, you will complete a socioeconomic evaluation conducted by a licensed social worker experienced in third-party reproduction. This is not a judgment of your lifestyle or your worth as a parent, it is a structured review designed to ensure that the environment you are building your family into is stable, prepared, and ready to support a child.
The evaluation covers your home environment, your support network, your emotional and relational readiness for parenthood through surrogacy, and your understanding of what this journey means for your future child. Your coordinator walks you through exactly what to expect before the evaluation takes place, so you go in informed, not surprised.
STEP 4 — Psychoeducational Consultation
You will meet with a licensed mental health professional experienced in third-party reproduction. This session prepares you for the emotional landscape of surrogacy, the highs, the hard moments, and everything in between. It is not a hurdle. It is one of the most valuable parts of the entire process.
STEP 5 — Egg Donor Match & Embryo Creation
(For intended parents who still need to create embryos) If you do not yet have viable embryos, this is where we start. We help coordinate your egg donor match through our trusted donor agency partners and work alongside your IVF physician to create and genetically test your embryos via PGT-A. We require a minimum of 2 viable, PGT-A tested embryos before moving to surrogate matching.
STEP 6 — Surrogate Matching
Your coordinator presents you with surrogate profiles carefully selected to align with your values, preferences, and expectations. You review at your own pace. When both you and your surrogate feel the connection is right, we move forward together.
STEP 7 —Medical Clearance & Coordination
Your surrogate completes her medical screening and receives clearance from your IVF clinic. Your coordinator manages every detail between you, your surrogate, and the clinic, so nothing falls through the cracks and you always know where things stand.
STEP 8 — Legal Preparation & Contracts
Before anything medical happens, we make sure every foundation is solid. Both you and your surrogate are each represented by independent legal counsel, and your Gestational Carrier Agreement is fully negotiated and signed. This contract protects you, your surrogate, and your child. No one moves to medical until contracts are fully executed.
STEP 9 — Embryo Transfer
Your surrogate undergoes the embryo transfer. Your coordinator is with you through every update and every waiting moment. This is the point where the journey becomes real in a whole new way.
STEP 10 — Pregnancy Confirmation & OB Care
A positive beta. Then a heartbeat. Your surrogate transitions into OB care and your coordinator stays in close communication throughout the entire pregnancy, monitoring progress, supporting your surrogate, and keeping you fully informed at every stage. You are never left wondering.
STEP 11 — Birth & Legal Parentage
Your surrogate delivers your baby. Depending on your program and jurisdiction, your legal parentage is established via a pre-birth or post-birth order. Your coordinator is present or on-call for the delivery.
